Core! Apple Bonkers Bonk Battling Music Biz
|
The legal scrap over the rights to take the name of fruit in vain has begun between the besuited representatives of little-known moptopped scallies THE BEATLES TM and Software Zillionaires-turned-purveyors of iThings APPLE Computers.
Among the contentious issues in the current terms of business is the insistence that the
best-selling digital music player is henceforth referred to as the "iPomegranate",
while any music played on the same devices have their publishing rights signed over
to "McCartney/Someotherdudes". The stakes in this landmark case may prove to be
golden, but will be far from delicious where the public are concerned. "Once upon a
time Pepperland was full of music and laughter", said Barry Wom of the Rutles,
"then an evil greyness descended and, er,
wwwwbbwb...bbwbwkuryfuer...rrrghgrugrhgegr....BLUE MEANIES!" At which point a hail of iPods thundered down and engulfed the courtroom. Shockwaves are reverberating through the entertainment business and through civilisation as a whole. The daughter of Coldplay's Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow is said to be texting her lawyer; while the makers of soft drink Appletise are considering a brand shift to "Bananatise".
Meanwhile notable by his lack of candour was bystander Ron McDonald, founder of
Hamburglar Records inc., whose roster of recording artists are all said to be seeking
alternative online outlets for their music.
